The Construction of Building Hope ~ 210 West Fulton Street
You Can Still Help!

Thank you to WMTV 15 News for covering the 210 West Fulton Street Project!

When construction began in September of 2023, Bachmann Construction was faced with a much larger project than initially anticipated. The building at 210 West Fulton Street, Edgerton, Wisconsin, was in such poor condition that nearly every component on each floor had to be torn down and rebuilt. The biggest surprise? The building’s structural issues which not only extended the project’s timeline but also significantly increased building costs. It was discovered that the building’s structural components needed to be raised 8-10 inches, a delicate process that required careful shoring.
The following highlights the transformation of each floor, with photo galleries and walkthrough videos documenting progression, featuring Bachmann Construction Superintendent Derek Wirth to walk us through changes made.
First Floor:
More than a year ago, anyone walking into 210 West Fulton Street would have encountered a 2’x10’ hole leading to a crawl space, a 6’ basement, and debris hanging by rusted nails and piling the floor. The progress made since then is remarkable. Bachmann Construction began by clearing the space of debris, filling the unnecessary holes with concrete, and expanding the first floor toward the neighboring teen center. The original stairs leading to the second floor were removed, and new office and storage spaces were built from the bottom up. The first floor is designed to serve as a meeting place for our local VFW Post #2708 and as a rentable space for other events. The most exciting addition to the first floor is The Freedom Kitchen, a fully commercial kitchen named for our dear friend of the entire Edgerton community, Ilir Banushi. The kitchen will be equipped with commercial appliances. The Freedom Kitchen will serve as the new headquarters for some Edgerton Community Outreach hunger programs, such as the Snackpack and Weekend Grub Club Program, as well as a potential Ghost Kitchen rental opportunity.

The second and third floors were designed with identical unit layouts: three apartment units on each floor, including a studio, one bedroom, and a two-bedroom ADA accessible unit. Before these apartments could be built, the previous unsafe and unsalvagable layouts had to be demolished and removed. This included the complete removal of windows, doors, floors, ceilings, and walls. All of these were rebuilt after Asbestos removal and Lead Abatement. Today, the second and third floors feature three beautiful apartments, each providing affordable living spaces for Veterans and their families.

Back Attachment:
The original back attachment of 210 West Fulton Street was in such a condition that it was beyond saving. However, before demolition, a team led by Mark Wellnitz and Edgerton Community Outreach’s very own Tanya Bennett carefully salvaged historically significant pieces of the building for future use. Notably, the original bowling alley lanes were removed and preserved for future use. After demolition, construction began on the newly rebuilt back attachment, elevator tower built from scratch, and the brand new staircase.
