For many years, Edgerton Outreach served breakfast at the local elementary school Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We provide students with juice, cereal, and fruit. The program is open to all students regardless of income and students do not need to register in any way for the program. During the 2009-2010 school year both the Middle School and Yahara Elementary School expressed interest in have the Breakfast Program at their schools.Previously manpower was the main reason for not expanding the program. Both the Middle School and Yahara provide the volunteers for their program and Edgerton Outreach provides the cereal, juice, bowls, cups, and spoons (etc). Monetary support for this program is provide through a grant from United Way of North Rock County, the Alliant Energy Foundation, and private donations from local churches, groups, and individuals. Monetary donations and donations of cereal are always appreciated and can be dropped off at the Thrift Store.
I have had the opportunity to help out at Community Elementary. I am always so impressed that so many of our local students have such good manners. The eye opening part of volunteering is the realization that even in our small town, some students are probably going to bed without dinner. This is evident by the kids that eat two or three bowls of cereal.
Thank you to all who volunteer at any of our three local schools. The students who need this program thank you also!
